The City of Curitiba – Pedestrian Llights for People with Reduced Mobility

Safer Road Users, 2015

The city of Curitiba (Paraná, Brazil) has begun installing and expanding a new traffic related product, the Pedestrian Lights for People with Reduced Mobility. The Lights allows more time for pedestrians in busy crossings and intersections that have a high risk of accidents, thanks to a proximity-triggered device that communicates with the public transport cards of elderly and people with disabilities. Nowadays, 179,400 people own such cards and are able to cross streets with more safety.
