North Yorkshire Traffic Bureau – Careful intelligence-led deployment of StarTraq Dome back office system

Highly Commended, 2015

Following a detailed feasibility study into the benefits and practical considerations of safety cameras, North Yorkshire Police Traffic Bureau (NYPTB) decided to introduce mobile cameras in June 2011. It is one of the largest counties so fixed cameras were no a cost-effective solution, but through careful intelligence-led deployment and highly efficient back-office systems.

Since then the number of offences captured by the cameras has increased from 1200 per month in 2011 to 4400 per month in 2015 thus acting as a deterrent to speeding motorists. And significantly the number of people killed or seriously injured has been reduced from 76 per year in 2009 to 62 in 2014.

Increased efficiencies have been achieved by utilising the StarTraq Dome back office solution for traffic offence management
