TfL – Powerd Two Wheeler interventions in London

Special Awards, 2011

In 2008 Transport for London (TfL) created the London Motorcycle Policy Unit to meet London’s casualty reduction targets of 40% by the end of 2010. It recognised that raising riding standards was key to the success of the project and so it sought to strengthen its partnership with the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) and to retain the services of the Motorcycle Tasking team (MTT).

Such a partnership has facilitated the education of motorcyclists, the engagement and enforcement of rider safety issues and tackled the problem of unroadworthy motorcycles, resulting in an impressive casualty reduction by the target date.
