Highways Agency Traffic Officers

Special Awards, 2011

Since 2004 the Highways Agency has operated a highly visible uniformed service on England’s motorway network, supported by 7 Regional control Centres and 38 Outstations. Separate from the police, the Highways Agency Traffic Officers have strengthened the way the road network is managed and maintaining traffic flow have maximised the use of available road space.

Such work is not prescriptive and requires the Traffic Officers to demonstrate their initiative and deal both professionally and sensitively with users of the network in a range of pressurised and potentially dangerous situations.
