Birmingham Road Safety Scheme – Y Factor
Birmingham’s Y-Factor road safety scheme unashamedly cribs everything that is X-Factor-esk to create a scheme that primary school children want to participate in – “has your school got the Y-Factor?”
The children discuss road safety then write lyrics and record their song about road safety. The best are judged in true ‘Simon Cowell’ style and posted on a dedicated web-site, which is then opened up to everyone to vote for their favourite song over a 6-week period (a school term).
The final winners go to a real recording studio to record their song, but by that time, thousands of children across the whole City have been immersed in talking and singing about road safety!
