The Cambridgeshire County Council Road Safety – ?We Mean Business?

Fleet Safety, 2008

A business focused project which targets company directors and managers to develop and implement work related road safety policies enabling companies to reduce road accidents. The county team is working with partners including the police, fire and rescue service and Peterborough City to deliver a successful awareness programme which is to continue in future years.

The initial programme consisted of eight one day seminars for small and medium enterprises across Cambridgeshire, informing them of the legal requirements for work related driving, the benefits of writing work related road safety policies, and the methods to write and implement them.

The project in its first year influenced over 10,000 individuals. Approximately 10% of attended companies returned polices to Cambridgeshire County Council for evaluation and assistance. Since attending a ‘We Mean Business’ seminar Buckinghamshire County Council has run similar seminars, and Cambridgeshire County Council has been assisting West Sussex Council to run a similar scheme.
