Commendation

Highly Commended, 2008

A successful road safety programme for children aged 2 to 7 years. The ethos of Footsteps is to encourage children to learn the skills necessary to take responsibility for their own safety at the roadside.

Footsteps is currently practiced by over 7,000 children in more than 220 schools and early year’s units throughout Oxfordshire, and is supported by over 800 parent volunteers. In addition, 108 child minders currently practice Footsteps, with a further 600 children benefiting from the programme. From 1990 child pedestrian casualties have followed a downward trend.
