The new UKROEd suite of virtual driver education courses
On 20 March 2020, all classroom-based National Driver Offender Retraining courses (including the National Speed Awareness Course) were suspended because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Due to the collaborative efforts of UKROEd, course providers, police forces and trainers, the first virtual courses (or 'iCourses') were ready just seven days late r. In the following 12 months, the courses provided an effective educational alternative to penalty points and fines for more than 1.3 million drivers and riders, helping to alleviate demand on an overburdened court system.
The National Driver Offender Retraining Scheme offers a course as an alternative to enforcement sanctions, only where their driving may have amounted to a lapse of concentration or an error of judgement, with no serious consequences or high risk.
