15 December 2020

Safe School Zones Vietnam has been acknowledged with a Royal Award.

From 2018-2020, the National Traffic Safety Committee (NTSC) and Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) of Vietnam played a critical role in supporting a pilot program focused on reducing speeds in school zones in Pleiku City, Gia Lai Province, Vietnam. The Safe School Zones programme, implemented in partnership with AIP Foundation and sponsored by Fondation Botnar and supported by the Global Road Safety Partnership, has delivered comprehensive safety interventions and secured a legislative decision that reduces school zone speed limits to 30-40km/h in Pleiku City.

In recognition, the Gia Lai provincial government passed a new law which calls for Pleiku City authorities to allocate funding for school zones The Decision represents a landmark step towards securing safe school zones throughout Vietnam, demonstrating the government’s heightened commitment to protecting children on the roads and the growing potential for Pleiku City to serve as a model city for safe school zones nationwide.
