Aukland Safe Speeds Programme – Safe Speeds
The safe speeds programme in Auckland, New Zealand has set speed limits more aligned to Safe System speeds on more than 2900km of rural and urban roads. Two years later, results from Phase One show a 30% decrease in deaths and serious injuries, compared to a 9% increase in deaths and serious injuries on roads where speed limits were not changed.
Changes were supported by community promotion and traffic calming infrastructure. Based on this success, further reductions are being considered.
