The University of British Columbia – Computer Vision Road Safety Analysis System

Road Safety Management, 2015

Led by Dr. Tarek Sayed, the UBC Civil Engineering transportation group has developed and applied their award-winning computer vision technology over the past decade which:
?

  • Allows for the automated quantification of road safety through objective measurements of traffic conflicts (near misses)
  • Is well-researched with 40 peer-reviewed refereed journal publications and proven through successful applications globally
  • Is sensitive to measure not only road safety, but road user behaviour and characteristics—further opening the door to deeper behavioural research
