Fife Road Safety Unit

Commendation

Highly Commended, 2008

With the ‘Curriculum for Excellence’ in mind it was decided that the programme would be designed as an activity to stimulate class discussion, planning and decision making and, using the Curriculum guidelines, include “challenge and enjoyment” and “relevance”.

Through class discussion, the programme raises awareness of road safety issues arising from the transfer from primary to secondary school, the effect of peer pressure on a child’s behaviour and how each child can take responsibility for their actions. Every Primary School in Fife takes ‘Making Choices’ and completion of the programme has reduced the casualty rate by 53%.
