The World Rescue Organisation

Post Crash Response, 2022

The World Rescue Organisation [WRO] is an international organisation which has operated since 1999. Its principal work is to develop the skills and capability of emergency workers responding to post-crash incidents. An effective tool in achieving this, at significantly low costs, is the Challenge Concept and World Rescue Challenge (WRC). The Challenge Concept encourages responders embrace this type of training. The Challenge event has taken place in fifteen countries and sees seventy-two teams from around the world compete each year.

The WRO aims to provide a platform for rescue/medical personnel from around the world to share and advance rescue science and technology, and promote a safe system of work by means of:

  • The sharing of skills and knowledge is unique, as both statutory and volunteer organisations are involved. The WRO through its membership base has members from diverse areas of expertise.
  • Introduction and maintenance of an industry standard for dealing with Post Crash incidents on a global basis.
  • The development of enhanced proficiency in rescue techniques, incident management and medical care.
  • Introduction of multi-agency casualty centered approach to post-crash incidents under pillar 5.
  • Development of partnerships at national/international levels
  • To recognise and respond to the United Nations, Resolution 74/299 and contribute to Strategic Development Goals target 3.6 to reduce road traffic deaths and injuries by 50% by 2030, through the implementation of safe systems in post-crash intervention and care.
