Transport for London - Work Related Road Risk Programme

Road Safety Management, 2015

TfL is responsible for London’s transport network, ensuring the population keep moving efficiently, while delivering the Mayor’s target to improve road safety. This includes engaging its own employees through communications, good practice and its Approved Driver program, operated in collaboration with the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM). This successful programme emphasises ‘safe and sustainable mobility’.

It shows cost, collision reduction, compliance and community benefits from a programme focused on driver authorisation, risk assessment, coaching and vehicle safety. Since 2012 there has been a 22 per cent reduction in crashes.

In 2011 a policy was put in place to remove all grey fleet driving. All TfL staff have Oyster Cards and are encouraged to use public transport, otherwise if absolutely necessary (such as when travelling at night) an approved taxi, pool or hire vehicle.
