Singapore's Land Transport Authority – Silver Zone project

Safer Roads, 2016

Singapore is faced with a demographic challenge of ageing residents. Currently, seniors who constitute about 17% of the population are over-represented in pedestrian fatalities, being involved in about 47% of pedestrian fatalities.

In 2013, Land Transport Authority (LTA) initiated the Silver Zone project in tandem with its “Walk, Cycle, Ride Singapore” (WCR) vision. Silver Zones boldly alter the character of the streets, making them a safer environment for seniors.

The team went through vigorous researches and explorations on overseas best practices on road safety measures before adapted them into Singapore’s local context.
