Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency in partnership with HSL – Load Security Programme
In 2013, Highways Agency reported 22,000 incidents where traffic flow was interrupted on the motorway network due to debris falling from vehicles.
In partnership with HSL, DVSA has formulated and implemented a pragmatic policy on monitoring and enforcing the security of loads transported on UK roads. This has been underpinned with an online guide for operators, featuring a suite of videos created with the cooperation and input from industry representatives.
This work has created a better understanding of problems within the industry and increased compliance significantly and the associated enforcement programme has led to over 3000 vehicles being prohibited from operating unsafely.
